DEP UPDATE
In an April 11, 2006 letter DEP has updated its information, printed in the March issue of the Pipecaster, regarding the use of the Dutchman and Saddles for the installation of new house sewer connections on existing sewers.
"Dutchman or Saddle with stainless steel strap is acceptable for new sewer connection on existing sewer without concrete cradle.
A Dutchman could be used for new house sewer connections 6" and 8" inches in diameter on sewers with concrete cradle.
For new house sewer connections larger than 8" in diameter, short length of pipe with a hub may be used in lieu of a Dutchman
Concrete collar all around the Dutchman/Saddle is required.
A three (3") inches thick concrete encasement with 6 x 6 # 2.9 wire mesh over the top half of brick sewers, for a minimum length of four feet along the length of the brick sewer shall be provided. The concrete encasement shall be allowed to set for a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours before the core drill may be performed."
