Residential Flow Tests Required
By Fire Department

Pursuant to Local Law 10/99: (see Pipecaster, March and June 1999) all sprinkler systems in residential buildings with four or more units must undergo a "flow test" every thirty months with the first test performed no later than December 31, 2000 for systems installed before July 1998. These new tests must be performed either by a master licensed plumber or fire suppression contractor and submitted to the Fire Department.

Copies of the Rule which describes how the test is to be performed (3 RCNY Section 37-06) and the form on which the test results must be submitted (FP-100) will be available by writing to the New York City Fire Department, Bureau of Fire Prevention, Attention Sprinkler Desk, 9 Metro Tech Center, 3rd floor, Brooklyn, New York 11201-3857.
