Parking

A frustrating aspect of a contractor's life is parking. Making matters worse is when one of the company's vehicles is towed because of tickets that the owner of the company did not know about or for unpaid tickets issued on another company car. In such situations, in addition to the cost of the underlying parking ticket and towing, a whole day's work is lost while the vehicle is being retrieved after the towing. Contractors who have two or more vehicles and are concerned about having their vehicles towed should consider enrolling in New York City's "Fleet Program". Companies enrolled in the program receive weekly "Newly Issued Summonses" reports for any summonses issued to plates registered with the program. The Company must contest the summons or pay it within forty-five days. Companies wishing to enroll in the program should contact the Foundation at (212) 233-6555 and we will send you an application form.

Contractors who do a lot of residential service work should be aware of the following parking regulation. Traffic Rule 4-08(k)(6): "No person shall park a commercial vehicle on a residential street between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. .... This subdivision shall not apply to vehicles owned or operated by ... gas ... heat systems maintenance companies.
