We reprint the Department's Technical PPN 2/99 issued by Deputy Commissioner Richard Visconti
on January 28, 1999.
PURPOSE:
To permit the testing of gas pressure using gauges other than mercury gauges in order to
reduce the potential hazard posed by equipment containing mercury.
SPECIFICS:
Conversion Factor:
A pressure of six (6) inches (15.24 cm) of mercury is equivalent to 3 psig (20.68kPa).
Requirements:
A gas pressure of 3 psig (20.68kPa) taken using a spring or digital gauge for a minimum
of 30 minutes is equivalent of a gas pressure of six (6) inches (15.24 cm) of mercury
