The Plumbing Foundation City of New York, established in 1986,
is a nonprofit association of licensed contracting firms,
engineering associations, manufacturers and suppliers whose
mission is to insure the public health through the enactment
and enforcement of safe plumbing codes. In connection with that
mission we regularly meet with legislative and regulatory bodies
that pass laws and promulgate regulations which affect the
plumbing industry. We also work with various city agencies to
try to reduce unneeded bureaucratic steps and paperwork that
increase costs to the consumer with no public health benefit.
The Foundation has close working relationships with key city
agencies and groups including the Departments of Buildings,
Environmental Protection, Health Department, Fire Department,
and Master Plumber/Fire Suppression Contractor License Board.
The Foundation is overseen by a 12 person Board of Directors who represent some of the largest plumbing firms in New York City. Also part of the Foundation are representatives of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers, American Society of Sanitary Engineers, head officials from Plumbers Local One, supply houses and selected manufacturers. Manufacturers often make presentations of new products to the Foundation. The Foundation publishes a monthly news magazine, "The Pipecaster," which is distributed to over 1900 entities including every plumbing firm in the City, every elected City official, key agency officials, most construction trade associations, and many suppliers and manufacturers.
